Our Vision

Our vision is a clear, compelling God-given picture of what our future can and must look like. Our vision answers the question of where we are going. Our Elders have prayerfully developed a vision of what New Covenant will look like in the year 2015.

Due to the numerical and spiritual growth, we relocated to a new 30 acre site in 2011. Our beautiful, yet simple facilities include a worship center seating 1200, class rooms in varied sizes for Adult Bible Fellowships, youth, children and training, a recreation area, large lobby for fellowship, and café. Our multipurpose campus supports an active ministry to over 3000 people in four services. The entire ministry campus is designed to be esthetically attractive, age-appropriate and functional in order to release ministry.

Developing Wholehearted Worshippers
Our three worship services on Sunday morning and two on Sunday evening are marked by spirit led and Christ focused worship.

  • Our worship is anchored in solid, relevant teaching of the Scriptures for the purpose of life transformation.
  • The adult choir of 120, and multiple instrumental and worship teams lead us in flexible, intimate and participatory worship.
  • Our new ministry campus was made possible because of the generous, even sacrificial giving by our church members.
  • The wonderful people of New Covenant have so caught our Scriptural vision for ministry that 70% of them are giving sacrificially and actively participating in the vision for His church.

Developing Faithful Witnesses
We are becoming a mission outpost to the Cedar Rapids area and outlying communities.

  • Our MOPS ministry with over 100 women and our monthly Marketplace ministry with over 100 in attendance are effective outreaches into our community.
  • Seminars and workshops on felt needs such as parenting and finances bring the message of Christ to the unchurched.
  • There are testimonies on a weekly basis of people coming to faith in Christ with over 100 people receiving Christ as Savior and uniting with Him in baptism every year.
  • 20% of our fellowship is actively involved in some area of cross-cultural missions each year. A growing number of members and leaders focus their spiritual and financial gifts on reaching diverse groups of people.
  • Our sister church in the Czech Republic and a new church planted in Macau are developing solid indigenous leadership through short-term and intermediate visits from New Covenant discipleship teams.
  • We now sponsor 10 individuals or families from our own church who are serving as full-time missionaries, with another one to two from our fellowship being commissioned per year.
  • It is especially satisfying to see how the Halftime ministry has been used of God to help people prioritize their life in order to make a kingdom impact. We are impacting our community through strategic partnerships with Aid to Women, His Hands, and Youth for Christ.

Developing a Caring Community
Our organic flock structure ensures that each person has a place to belong and a ministry to in which to serve.
  • Our church family has an opportunity to build significant relationships, study the Bible, reach out to others and grow in their commitment to being genuine disciples of Jesus Christ through one of our 40 Adult Bible Fellowships and 200 small groups.
  • Our care ministry provides TLC and a listening ear to those who are hurting or going through crisis. This ministry brings a personal touch that would seem impossible to achieve in a large church.
  • Those new to our fellowship are being constantly incorporated into our church family.
  • The six Friends Classes and nine Membership Classes per year provide a friendly welcome to our church.
Developing Christlike Models
Our Spiritual Life Inventory helps each person assess where they are in their spiritual growth and is used by our small groups, ABFs and ministry teams to help people be more intentional in their growth. It is commonplace to hear people say that attending New Covenant has helped their spiritual life to soar.

  • Our monthly leadership communities in each flock helps equip and train current and prospective leaders.
  • Our Servant Leadership basic training is used by all of our ministries to equip emerging leaders for ministry.
  • Advanced classes in church leadership, church mission, church dynamics and theology for leaders prepares people for serving on our Elder or Deacon Board.
  • We are involved in mentoring/preparing interns and other leaders from our own congregation for future ministry.
  • The Refuge is used for staff retreats and for housing interns from Dallas Theological Seminary.
  • In the community, New Covenant is know as a church that develops servants who know how to lead. Those who develop their leadership skills out of our ministry go on to serve in local government, media, education and not for profit agencies.
Developing Equipped Servants
We are responding to requests from outlying communities to help them plant and equip disciplemaking churches.

  • The video messages provide quality Bible teaching, enabling the formation of new church outreaches into the rural areas surrounding Cedar Rapids.
  • Our equipping staff provides regular training for the part time and volunteer staff who serve in worship, children, youth, adult, and missions ministries.
  • Our newly formed Servant Leadership Association provides the structure along with mutual support and encouragement for those who serve in our affiliated churches.
  • Our equipping ministry helps people find their ministry niche, and over 70% of our adults actively serve in a ministry.
  • The monthly Networking class helps people discover their design and find their ministry fit. It is especially rewarding to see the generations serving side by side, united by a common purpose.
  • Servanthood is viewed as a privilege rather than an obligation or burden. People at every level, children through mature adult, have ownership of the ministry and are actively serving using their gifts, talents and passions.
Children's Ministry
Our Adventureland Children's Ministry is an inviting environment designed just for kids that makes learning about Jesus fun.

  • The 500 children and 100 adult leaders and volunteers involved in Adventureland experience the love of the Lord each week as they meet for worship, learning, serving, friendship and outreach.
  • Our children's ministry attracts many pre-Christian families who begin attending because of their children.
  • Our commitment to building strong families and to equipping parents is an effective testimony and witness.
Youth Ministry
Our Youth ministry continues to grow both spiritually and numerically with over 400 teens in attendance on Sundays.

  • Our Wednesday night outreaches are reaching out to youth in our community, with many making commitments to Christ.
  • Our Youth ministry has created a momentum of growth that contagiously spills over into families, schools and our entire community.
  • Our youth are trained to effectively reach out, shepherd and disciple their peers.
  • Our newly designed youth center is attractive to youth and incorporates multimedia, recreational facilities, large group meeting rooms and places for intimate interaction. It is a place where teens just love to hang out.
  • Many of our teens are transitioning into leadership positions in their campus ministries and many are going into intermediate and career missions.
Young Adult
Our Young Adult ministry is picking up the same momentum and growth.

  • Watershed continues to reach out to young adults in our community, leading them to a life-changing relationship with Christ and a local church.
  • Our college students, young singles and young marrieds have a vision for reaching their generation for Christ. They are stepping up to take leadership in small groups, Adult Bible Fellowships and other equipping ministries.
  • Our part-time campus leaders are effectively connecting with and reaching students at Coe, Cornell, Mount Mercy and Kirkwood for Christ. A movement of God's Spirit has begun, raising up a future generation of leaders for the kingdom.

It's hard to comprehend that this all started in 1950 with a band of 21 people who had a vision for reaching their city for Christ. The size of the vision and scope of our ministry has grown over the years. But our commitment to the Word and the fulfillment of His purposes in the lives of others remains the same. By God's grace and by the power of His Spirit and by the unified efforts of His people, this vision can become a reality. Please join us as we seek to fulfill God's mandate to make disciples of all nations.
